Roots & Wings International creates educational opportunities to promote development as defined by local communities. Thanks to the support of individuals and corporate sponsors, RWI has been able to develop three different programs - University Scholarships, Computer Literacy and After-School Tutoring - to help the students from rural Guatemala work towards the development of their native communities. Our work is rooted in recognizing the importance of culturally responsive education that empowers students to connect their cultural identity with sustainable social and economic development.
When you plan to visit rural Guatemala with Roots & Wings International, you're not only getting ready for a fantastic experience worth writing home about-you are also helping generate income in a sustainable way for the indigenous coffee-growing communities that we serve.
Our office and visitor residence are in Pasac, a charming rural mountain village in Southwest Guatemala, home of the K'iché people. It is about a 3 hour drive from Guatemala City, 2.5 hours from Antigua, and 1.5 hours from the beautiful Lake Atitlan.
