Cristina Xúm Ixtós
Cristina Xúm Ixtós is the sixth of 7 siblings. She was born on November 3, 1988, and lives in Caserío Pochol, in the village of Xejuyup, Nahualá, Sololá. She is working towards a teaching degree in Secondary Education at the Universidad Panamericana de Guatemala.
Her goal is to achieve a good education to be more useful in the community. She would like to continue her studies to gain a Bachelor’s Degree and land a job that allows her to prepare the students of the future.
In 2009, Cristina was looking forward to starting college. Unfortunately, one of her sisters was attending a private school, so Cristina couldn't start her studies due to economic hardships. Cristina is an expert weaver of güipiles, so that year she worked hard and saved enough to enrol in college. In 2011, she was selected for the Roots and Wings University Scholarship program.
