Meet Some of Our Guatemalan Scholars (Español)

Dear Friend,

In this issue, we want to introduce via video our Guatemalan scholars, all of whom are the first in their family to go to college.

I am proud to say that with the support of people like you, Roots and Wings has come a long way from its heyday as a one-man project. To date, we have expanded our organization to enable our 15+ volunteers to reach several Guatemalan university scholars and give them an education they otherwise would not have been able to afford.

As a show of our thanks, please take a moment to check out a three-minute video that our volunteers produced – University Scholars. The video showcases our Guatemalan scholars via personal narratives and heartfelt messages of gratitude.

To the right is a picture of one of our scholars. Herlinda is 19 years old and is studying medicine at the Mesoamerican University in Quetzaltenango. Herlinda´s ultimate goal is to open a clinic in her village which currently has no medical facilities. She would like to prevent the high rates of infant mortality that families suffer in this area.
