Featured Student:
Cruz Tzep Can

Cruz is 25 years old and boards in a house in Xejuyup, Sololá. He has no siblings and both parents died when he was a young child.  He finished high school at
El Instituto La Asuncion after having graduated from junior high at the top of his class. He now wants to earn a BA in Math Pedagogy. Cruz works as an elementary school teacher. He says that some students find it harder than others to understand what he explains, so he finds new techniques to help the students understand what he teaches.

High School vs. University Scholarships

Cruz earned a high school scholarship from RWI. Will RWI initiate future high school scholarships? Erik, Founder and President of RWI, had this to say, "We will likely only have this one student. He was a really motivated student, an orphan, and really needed support." In general, RWI turns down all students seeking a high school scholarship to maintain focus on providing qualified applicants with university-level education.

Featured Volunteer:
Agus Dillon

Agus Dillon, a native of Argentina, is one of RWI’s invaluable volunteers. Her role with RWI is as Translator/Blogger. Fluent in Spanish, she also communicates with our Guatemala staff.

Agus is currently a college student studying technical, scientific and literary translation at Lenguas Vivas "Juan Ramon Fernandez." Her goals include earning a master’s degree in translation.

What does Agus have to say about RWI? "RWI has a great team….I’ve been able to get in touch with people from different countries and learn a lot from each translation."

In her spare time, Agus enjoys reading and telling stories to her younger brother, having tea with friends, writing and listening to music.

RWI has just won an approximately $100,000 commitment from TECO Energy to begin construction of the first technology center in the Boca Costa region of Guatemala. RWI President Erik Swanson is very excited about our corporate partner’s commitment, stating, "We’re going to break ground asap!" TECO Energy has backed RWI programs for months in various projects, culminating in the approximately $100,000 commitment to solidify the building of the new technology center.

Lift N Glow

Results of the LiftNGlow Fundraiser!

RWI raised $3563 from the LiftNGlow Skincare Clinic fundraiser in December! Thanks to LiftNGlow Skincare Clinic for their wonderful fundraising efforts! It is companies like theirs who make it possible for RWI to offer educational opportunities to Guatemalan students in poverty. We hope to continue our partnerships and build new ones in the future!
