Founder Erik Swanson's Recent Visit to Guatemala

Founder Erik Swanson's week-long visit to Guatemala in December proved to be an anticipated success. A RWI cocktail fundraiser held in the Latin American country raised $2000! RWI university scholars were invited to participate in the fundraiser. These students recapped their experiences with RWI, engaging the audience with anecdotes and personal narratives. Funding for the new $75K technology center looks promising. Swanson states, "We are close to making it happen. I think the project will be funded early next year!"

Microsoft Software Donation

Microsoft has donated $15,557 worth of software to RWI this past month in efforts to support communities around the world. The company’s goal is to bring technology to the next billion of the world’s people by 2015.

RWI has plans to use this software donation to support and expand our technology efforts in the Boca Costa region of Guatemala. Our proposed technology center will also benefit from Microsoft’s generous donation as will the people there whom we serve.

Through Microsoft’s Unlimited Potential Community Technology Skills program, the software giant aims to improve technology skills for underserved populations around the globe.  Microsoft and RWI see eye to eye when it comes to creating social and economic opportunities that will transform communities.

January 2010

Founder Erik Swanson and Cristobal Guarchaj, RWI’s Director in Guatemala, both participated in a radio interview in Guatemala. The interview was aired on Libertopolis on December 7, 2009. Erik answered questions in Spanish from radio interviewer Maria Renee Ordonez about the efforts of RWI and gaining exposure for the organization. RWI revamped our website on December 11, 2009. The fresh website represents RWI’s growth as an organization.

The new website introduces new menu bars that make navigation simpler. Plus, our revised drop down menus feature the new link News & Media that directs you to our latest press releases, blogs, newsletters, video and photos. You will find our new website to be sprightlier and well organized for easy maneuvering.

RWI's dedicated and talented team of volunteers put in numerous hours to present the new, sharp look: Webmaster Edwin Lunandy, Board Member Jake Cooney (who co-designed the website with Edwin) and our IT Director Steve Long (who helped create the test site and upgraded our website server software).
