Green Lion Roars for RWI!

Virilion Virilion, of Washington, DC, held a successful cocktail event on August 20, 2009, to raise funds for Roots and Wings International. Virilion garnered publicity for RWI and managed to raise $200 by serving delicious Green Lion cocktails (proceeds from each cocktail went to RWI). What an exciting evening for RWI´s very own Anna Heatherly, who manages our social networking endeavors and whose company, Virilion, began a partnership with RWI. Virilion will continue to host similar events to raise funds for RWI in the future!

“Green Lion” is a term stemming from a combination of Latin and English words whose meaning (the Latin “viri” = green; lion symbolizes strength) is intended to represent the full-service interactive agency Virilion! If you´d also like to support RWI, click here to donate!

RWI´s Live Broadcast to Raise Funds

On August 19, 2009, the Seattle-based nonprofit Jolkona Foundation held a live broadcast featuring Roots and Wings International. The purpose of the live event was to raise funds for RWI´s Computer Literacy for Kids project ($60 per year per student for one year).

Jolkona Foundation saw RWI´s incredible potential for growth and selected RWI out of 40+ nonprofits. The event lasted approximately two hours, with participants from Seattle also in attendance doing impromptu interviews. Remote viewers communicated with Adnan Mahmud, Jolkona´s founder and host of the event, via Twitter. Jolkona raised a total of five gifts through the event: one full year of tutoring for one student ($60) and four gifts of one month of tutoring for one student ($5). The evening also garnered local publicity. You can make a difference, too! A small donation of $5 will help tutor one student. Please donate today by clicking here!

These donated computers have been taken directly to our Guatemalan lab and will begin serving as teaching tools to educate RWI´s eager students. We currently have 7 computers in our computer lab; the additional 11 computers signify the capacity to tutor up to 100 additional students per day, a momentous leap in RWI´s tutoring faculties!
